Starting this month, New Drug Loft will begin using the CurifyLabs automated compounding system. This new technology will be used by our highly-trained pharmacy staff during the preparation of non-sterile compounded medications in a variety of novel formats including gummies and dissolvable films (think: Listerine strips). In this post, we’ll explain how this new technology will benefit the prescribers we partner with and the patients they serve.
What It Means for Our Prescribers and Their Patients
Personalized Medications with New Dosage Forms
Patients can receive medications tailored to their prescribed dose and dosage form (e.g., tablets, gummies, capsules, or films). Customizable dosage forms such as smaller tablets or alternative formats like dissolvable films and gummies can also make medications easier to take and may improve adherence, especially for populations like children.
Here are just some of the dosage forms we will be able to create with this new system:
- Gummies
- Troches
- Tablets
- Capsules
- Dissolvable oral films
- Gels
- Liquids
- Suppositories
Specifically, we’re expanding how dermatologic care can be experienced through our integration of CurifyLabs technology. This approach allows us to compound select medications into formats that are easier to incorporate into daily routines, such as gummies, films, and troches. These formulations may include low-dose minoxidil with supportive vitamins and/or DHT blockers, as well as antibiotics and JAK inhibitors, offering a more approachable and consistent way to stay aligned with prescribed care.
More Flexible Dosing
The new system supports precise dose customization, allowing prescribers to select patient-specific doses like those often required for pediatric, geriatric, or veterinary patients. The system can directly use pure API (powder, liquid, or oil) or even crushed tablets, provided there is an appropriate, validated formulation. The platform also supports multi-API formulations like those used in hormone replacement therapy (HRT), enabling customized combinations without requiring entirely new preparation workflows for each prescription.

“The expanded offering of dosage forms will help patients who potentially could not take medications previously due to an inability to swallow. It also offers the ability to compound extended-release formulas, multi-ingredient formulas, and flavor options.”
Faster Prescription Fulfillment
By automating several tedious manual compounding steps, we expect the system to reduce turnaround times for non-sterile medications that we already compound. CurifyLabs reported up to about 75 percent time savings, which means your patients will likely get their medications faster.
Improved Dosing Accuracy
Traditional compounding relies on well-established pharmacist expertise, but manual preparation steps, such as weighing and mixing, can introduce variability. Every preparation is traced and checked, so prescribers can be confident that a compounded dose matches the prescription.
Improved Access
This technology may also improve access to certain therapies, allowing us to quickly begin producing alternatives during commercial drug shortages. This can be especially important for vulnerable populations, including pediatric, oncology, and special-needs patients.
Traceability and Compliance
The system generates a comprehensive digital batch record for each preparation and incorporates quality data for different APIs. The standardized processes and digital batch records help support consistency and improve traceability, and it comes with electronic records, audit trails, and validated processes.
Overview of the Technology
The CurifyLabs compounding system is a highly precise, automated 3D printer that weighs, mixes, and dispenses compounded medications into a specific dosage form (tablet, capsule, gummy or film). It uses formulation software, standardized excipient bases, and automated dispensing hardware to produce patient-specific compounded medications based on formulations on CurifyLabs’ digital platform that includes stability data and dissolution profiles.
“Like most pharmacies, we will rely on CurifyLab’s data on existing formulas from their library. We will conduct third-party potency testing on new formulas.”
The system precisely dispenses and forms each dose using automated controls and in-process quality checks to support consistent and reproducible preparations. CurifyLabs evaluated its automated compounding system in a peer-reviewed, multi-site study across 30+ pharmacies in 8 European countries. In the study, they produced 6,088 propranolol tablets and achieved 100 percent compliance with European Pharmacopoeia dosing limits in the final configuration.
Their system integrates in-process quality controls, including an internal scale and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, demonstrating consistent and reproducible performance across sites. Their results showed that automated compounding can provide a more standardized workflow that supports greater prescribing flexibility and expands patient access to timely, personalized medications.
